nightguardsIt’s easy to be skeptical when it comes to the diagnosis of needing a night guard.  After all, the majority of patients are grinding or clenching their teeth in their sleep.

So what are the signs?  Often we note that the patient’s teeth may appear flat and worn down.  If excessive ware has taken place, the patient may convey difficulty chewing tougher foods.  Aside from physical appearance, patients may report muscle and jaw joint discomfort (TMJ), sensitivity to hot or cold, headaches and even neck aches.

A properly made and fitted night guard will decrease the forces of clenching and grinding.  It will also decrease the forces being applied to your muscle and joint allowing more comfortable jaw movement, a reduction in headaches and protected teeth!
