Brooklin- Whitby Ceramic Dental Implants
At Drs. Snider and Margolian Dentistry we are proud to offer our patients a completely metal free implant called the CeraRoot implant.
There are many reasons why a patient may contemplate getting a ceramic dental implant over titanium:
- Biocompatibility: When choosing a dental implant, how it will integrate with the jawbone is extremely important. The zirconia that CeraRoot implants are made out of is a very biocompatible material.
- Allergies/Sensitivities: Skin reactions to titanium, although extremely uncommon, can sometimes occur. If patients are concerned about allergies/sensitivities, they can avoid this issue with a ceramic implant or they can consider having MELISA testing done. This is an advanced diagnostic test that can tell patients if they are likely to have a reaction to the metal materials. For more information about the MELISA tests please visit their website at melisa.org.
- Esthetics: When replacing missing teeth in the mouth it’s important to consider where in the mouth the restoration is being placed. With titanium implants in the mouth, a patient with thin gums may notice that their tissues take on a grayish colour over time. For that reason, zirconia is an ideal alternative for restorations in the front of the mouth, because they closely resemble the natural tooth and wont change over time, because they have no metal.
- Corrosion Resistant: For patients who tend to have more sensitivities and are concerned about metal implants, zirconia is a good solution because they are completely bio-inert, don’t corrode over time, and don’t conduct electricity or heat. It’s important to note that most patients will never experience any of these concerns with traditional titanium implants but it’s good to have many options as everyone’s bodies react differently.
- No Moving Parts: Unlike titanium dental implants, which are made up of two different parts, the ceramic dental implants are just one component which research shows to be ideal for maintaining gum health. This is due to its smooth surface. With titanium dental implants there is a separate root portion in the jaw, and an additional abutment part, which is screwed into the root portion above the gumline.
Since the zirconia implant is only made up of one piece, without a prosthetic connected to it, there is very little chance of bacteria growing on or around it. This means the health of the patient’s gums is protected. As well, because the zirconia implants are completely white in colour, with no metal, there is never the risk of metal being seen in the mouth, making the patients smile beautiful.
